Dear Ephesus: The Forgetful Church

"You have forsaken the love you had at first," Jesus tells the church at Ephesus. It's pretty sobering to realize that we can serve God and suffer for him out of a heart that doesn't fully love him. There could be many motivations for our service: fear, guilt, duty. But none of these motivations will bring lasting fruit and joy. To our loveless hearts, Jesus says: remember, repent, and return. And he promises: when we have conquered, we will be granted to eat of the tree of life!
