Dear Laodicea: The Lukewarm Church

Pastor Seth preaches our last sermon in a series entitled Dear Church. In this series, we've looked at Jesus' seven letters to seven churches in the book of Revelation. In this final letter, Jesus tells the church of Laodicea: "because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." They were living in pride and self-sufficiency, and were completely blind to it. Jesus issues a wake-up call and tells them of their pitiable condition. They -- and we -- may have all we could need or want, but there is no food that can truly satisfy, no garment that can truly cover us, and no treasure that can give us real security. Jesus knocks at the door, ready to come in and give us true fellowship with him. Will we push the door open to him?
