A Channel of God's Grace

In this passage, David, on the run from King Saul, sends messengers to a wealthy but harsh man named Nabal, asking for provisions in return for the protection David's men had given Nabal’s shepherds. Nabal arrogantly refuses, insulting David. In anger, David prepares to attack Nabal’s household.

Enter Abigail, Nabal’s wise and discerning wife. Upon hearing of the impending danger, she quickly gathers food and gifts, rides out to meet David, and humbly pleads for peace. She takes responsibility for her husband’s offense, speaks with wisdom and grace, and reminds David of God's promises and his future as king. Her intervention stops David from taking vengeance.

God uses humble, wise people to be channels of grace. Abigail’s intercession reflects the heart of the Gospel and teaches us to be peacemakers in a broken world.
