Finding hope when you hit Rock bottom: Jonah 1:17-2:10
After Jonah is thrown into the sea for running from God's call, he is swallowed by a great fish prepared by God—a surprising and creative act of rescue. The fish becomes a picture of God's salvation, not punishment. From the belly of the fish, at the lowest point of his life, Jonah cries out to God. It's a powerful reminder that God hears the cries of broken people. In the darkness and depth of the sea, Jonah finds clarity and hope. Finding hope when you hit rock bottom is a theme that runs through his prayer. He acknowledges that though he was sinking, God reached down and lifted him up. This moment shows that there are so many creative ways that God saves people in the Bible, and often, His salvation comes in the most unexpected forms. Jonah’s deliverance ends with the fish releasing him safely onto dry land, marking a fresh start.
