Greenmonte Serving Valley Mission This Thursday
We will be serving dinner as a church to the homeless at Valley Mission in Staunton this Thursday (March 3). Natalie Pittman has created a sign-up sheet for food items that are needed for this evening. We are also in need of volunteers to serve. If you're available to volunteer, please contact Natalie.

Ministry Opportunity: Transportation Needed for Mission Soccer Players
The Nuñez family ministers to local refugee children through their ministry, Mission Soccer. Eduardo is in dire need of help to transport five soccer players from Staunton to Harrisonburg on Tuesday and Thursday nights after practice ends at 7:00 pm. This is the ride where most of the sharing and ministry usually takes place. Rides are needed for Saturday games as well, but that schedule has not been released. If you are interested in helping, please let Eduardo know.

What I Wish I'd Known About Parenting: This Saturday!


If only kids came with an instruction manual! With every phase they went through, we could flip to the right page and find parenting answers. While we don't have that option, there is a wonderful resource we can tap into: other parents. Join us this Saturday (March 5th), 6-7:30 pm, for a relaxed evening of dessert and fellowship as some of Greenmonte's experienced parents share what they wish they would have known earlier in their parenting journey. Feel free to bring your own parenting questions! Childcare provided.


Congregational Life Meeting this Sunday, March 6th
Our next Congregational Life Meeting will take place this Sunday, March 6th at the end of our worship service. The stewardship team will present on our church finances for 2021 and provide a budget proposal for 2022.

Jewelry Exchange Women's Night: March 26
The Greenmonte Women's Ministry is partnering with Suzanna Burkholder to bring you another Jewelry Exchange Women's night!

Who: Greenmonte ladies 6th grade and up. (Childcare is not provided).
When: March 26th from 7 - 8:30 PM
Where: Greenmonte Church Basement
Why: To have a fun ladies night with teaching to help you identify your best accessory size and colors, and the excitement of going home with new accessories.
What to bring: At least one item of jewelry to trade. (nothing sentimental, please). This includes necklaces, earrings, ear cuffs, bracelets, lapel pins, rings, scarf rings, etc.

From Mary Ann Bryant: Sanctity of Human Life Month

January is Sanctity of Human Life Month. There are a few opportunities, some of them ongoing, that you might consider taking part in.

March for Life, Friday, January 21st. A bus will leave St. Patrick's in Staunton at 7am, the March is from 12-3 and we will get back around 7pm (cost is $10). For more information, call Mary Ann, 631-786-3249.

The March for Life is an inspiring, peaceful, vibrant, and joy-filled rally of tens of thousands of women, men, young people, and children that come by the busloads from all across the country. We continue to bring to the nations' attention the many men, women, and children that have been significantly affected by abortion. It's the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world. We will be the voice of the children until this atrocity is ended.

Comfort Care baby bottles will be available to take home and fill with change, cash, and checks. Just a little something you can do to support babies and their families. If you are interested in joining their prayer team, participating in their post-abortive support group, or just need to talk to someone, you can call Comfort Care at 540-885-6261.

Prayer Vigil outside Planned Parenthood in Charlottesville. There is a team that goes the 2nd and 4th Friday mornings, but you can go whenever you are in Charlottesville. We have seen God do amazing things as we have prayed on the sidewalk. For more information, talk to Mary Ann, Kristin Donohue, or Danny & Cheryl Walker.

Advent at Greenmonte - Fourth Sunday - Love
This Sunday, December 19th is the fourth Sunday of Advent - the last Sunday before Christmas. Advent is the season when we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Christ child at Christmas, while also anticipating the time when Jesus will come again.

Grassroots Heroes: Honoring Mrs. Banda
Grassroots Heroes International is a mission partner of Greenmonte's. They provide funding for schooling and community development in Zambia and beyond. Greenmonte Christmas Caroling Tonight at 6:30pm!
Join us for Christmas Caroling at Stuarts Draft Retirement Community tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 pm. We'll meet at the gazebo/flagpole parking lot on Rolling Hills Drive. We will have three caroling stops outside around the property, will sing 4 to 5 songs at each stop, and will move about every 15 minutes. We'll have lyric sheets for everyone. Since we won’t be going into any buildings, the residents will be told about our visit so that they can come out on their individual balconies and patios.

After caroling, we'll have some hot chocolate and delicious cookies from Miller's Bake Shoppe outside at the gazebo area before we say good night.

We hope that you will all join us as we share some much needed Christmas cheer with our elderly friends!

For those who'd like to contribute, we're still receiving donations for local Afghan refugees in Waynesboro. You can bring the following items by the church this Sunday.  

  • Coats and warm clothing.  There are 18 children ages 6 months to 16 years old. All sizes of coats and sweaters would be helpful. 
  • Simple toys like blocks, cars, dolls, playing cards (no small pieces please) and educational workbooks.
  • Gift cards for Walmart or Visa

Additional opportunities to serve the refugees in conjunction with International Rescue Committee are available. Volunteers will need to provide proof of vaccination and pass a basic background check. Volunteers are needed to help with things like:

  • Driving refugees to and from the grocery store
  • Helping with ESL (English As Second Language)
  • Helping to identify job opportunities
  • Helping to find long-term housing

Opportunities to Help Local Afghan Refugee Families
We have the opportunity to be Jesus' hands and feet to bless a number of Afghan refugee families who are currently staying in temporary housing in the Waynesboro area. Our contact at the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville who is working with these families has said the following items would be helpful:
  • Coats and warm clothing.  There are 18 children ages 6 months to 16 years old. All sizes of coats and sweaters would be helpful. 
  • Simple toys like blocks, cars, dolls, playing cards (no small pieces please) and educational workbooks.
  • Gift cards for Walmart or Visa

You can bring these items to Greenmonte this Sunday or any time next week and place them in the lobby area.

For those interested in volunteering in other ways, Diana Connolly, our contact from IRC, will be hosting a Volunteer Orientation via Zoom on Sunday afternoon. The orientation will go over Refugee Resettlement, the IRC’s role, the current crisis, and volunteer roles, expectations and boundaries. It should take about 90 minutes.

Additional opportunities for those who would like to serve directly with the refugee families include:
  • Assisting Afghan families with things like grocery shopping, delivery of prepared meals (from restaurants) and transportation of those items.

If you would like to learn more about those opportunities and have some weekday, daytime availability to jump in and help with transportation and delivery of these items, please contact Diana Connoly, development coordinator of IRC, directly at Diana.Connolly@rescue.org. She'll set up a brief interview with you and get your background check started asap.

Ends of the Earth Movie Showing October 18 & 21
The Santanas are a Greenmonte missionary family serving with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Papua, Indonesia. We're always lifting up them up in our prayers as they labor to bring the gospel to unreached peoples in Papua. There is a documentary called Ends of the Earth releasing this month that highlights their work in Papua. The film can be viewed at the Regal Stonefield in Charlottesville. Redeeming the 40: Equipping Class at Greenmonte, Starting October 24
Brian Mininger will be teaching a class at Greenmonte called Redeeming the 40 on how God can redeem our work, and how our everyday work can bring glory to Him. Our Fellowship Meal will take place this Sunday (October 10th) following the worship service. Please bring a main dish and consider bringing a side or dessert as well so that we can have enough for all of our guests. We will have the options of both indoor and outdoor seating at our fellowship meal (weather permitting).

Little Hearts Preschool: New Ministry from Comfort My People
Greenmonte is partnered with Comfort My People, a ministry of the gospel to Jewish people in Israel and beyond. Paul Robbins has shared with us a new ministry that they're launching called Little Hearts Preschool. To read more about this initiative, read his letter.

Church Outdoors & Field Day This Sunday at 10am at the Peltolas'

This Sunday, August 29, we'll hold Church Outdoors at 10am at the home of the Peltolas (53 Spring Branch Ln, Waynesboro). Bring your own picnic lunch and join us for some fellowship time. After lunch we'll have churchwide field games and fun!

We'll be worshiping in the Peltolas' front yard, so please feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on. You're also free to bring an umbrella or canopy for the sun.

The Peltola neighborhood is accessed by a one-lane road. Please yield to oncoming traffic by waiting at turns or pulling into someone's driveway. (The shoulder is too narrow for pulling over.) When you reach Spring Branch Lane, keep bearing left to stay on the paved road, which will lead you through a white fence marked with #53.

Our youth group is invited to a worship night this Friday at Common Ground in Fishersville starting at 6:30. Widow/Widower Support Group Starting September 7th
Isaiah 61 Ministries, a ministry partner of Greenmonte, is a Christian counseling center whose mission is to help people find their healing, wholeness, and freedom in Christ from the griefs and traumas of life. Beginning on Tuesday, September 7th, they will begin an eight-week support group for those dealing with the death of a spouse. This group will provide a better understanding of what is expected in the grieving process, as well as encouragement in knowing you are not alone. After worship on Sunday, July 25th, you're invited to join us for a church picnic at noon at Lofton Lake! We'll have a regular 10am indoor service at our Greenmonte church building, and then head to Lofton Lake for a potluck picnic. The church will provide chicken, and we ask you to bring a side dish and/or a dessert to share. Seating is limited so bring an outdoor chair if you have one. After lunch there will be time for open swim.

Snacks Needed for Love Inc
Love INC is a local organization that mobilizes churches to provide a helping hand to people in need in our community. This summer, they will be holding "Rekindle the Fire" events for both volunteers and neighbors, and are in need of donated snacks for several of these evenings (July 6th, July 13th, and August 3rd). Snacks can be brought to the Love Inc office prior to the date, or you can bring them to the location on the evening of the event and stay for fellowship. Both Sunday Morning Services Now Mask-Optional

This past Sunday we announced a change to our mask policy. Beginning this Sunday, June 6th, both the 9:30 am and 11:00 am services will be mask-optional. We arrived at this decision as a result of changing public guidelines and practices in conjunction with feedback we received from those in our body.

We will continue to offer a 'self-serve' nursery experience for both services. And kids' church will only be offered during the 11:00 am service.  

We look forward to worshipping together this Sunday.

Communication from Southern District of Virginia Mennonite Churches: New District Minister
The Southern District Counsel has called Kevin Gasser as the next District Minister, beginning June 1. Kevin follows Beryl Jantzi, who served in the role for eleven years. Kevin will also continue at Staunton Mennonite Church, where he has served as pastor since 2006. Kevin is married to Sonya, an Occupational Therapist at Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center. They have two children, Paxton and Hadley. Kevin enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family, reading and studying theology, and a good cup of coffee. He hopes to find ways for the churches of our district to work together to fulfill the Great Commission, teaching and baptizing in the name of Jesus Christ throughout Augusta County, and to the furthest corners of the earth. Youth Group
Greenmonte's Youth Group has wrapped up for the school year and will not be meeting again until the Fall. However, all youth are invited to Youth Fire Night this Friday from 6:30 to 9pm at Common Ground in Fishersville. Speak to Francis Pereira if you would like more information.

Power Camp: July 19-23
Our local Fellowship of Christian Athletes is putting on a Power Camp for kids ages 8-12 from July 19-23 this summer. If you'd like to register your child, you can go to their registration form.

Caution: Bird Nest in Church Parking Lot
A killdeer bird has built a nest and laid eggs in our church parking lot. Orange cones have been placed around the nest. Please be aware of these cones as you are pulling in or backing out of your parking space. Please try not to get too close to the nest, as the mother bird needs to stay on it. Once hatched the babies will quickly leave the nest. Thank you for exercising caution as we watch out for these creatures!

Church Outdoors at 10am on Sunday, May 30th
On Sunday, May 30th we'll meet for Church Outdoors for one 10am service at the home of Randy & Liza Peltola (53 Spring Branch Ln, Waynesboro). Since the church has recently been meeting in two different services, we're looking forward to this outdoor gathering as a way of coming together for one Sunday as a church body.

Renewing the Mind: Saturday, June 5th at Greenmonte 
Have you felt dry lately in your relationship with God? Have you been trying to live the Christian life in your own effort and feel frustrated with the results? Are you struggling with forgiveness? Do you long to effortlessly live in the fruit of the Holy Spirit? Renewing the Mind (RTM) will be held on Saturday, June 5, 8:30am to 5pm, at Greenmonte Fellowship, 1661 Cold Springs Rd, Stuarts Draft, VA.

RTM, based on Romans 12:1-2, presents a "tool" called the HEART Chart, which stands for the Heart Evaluation and Renewal Tool, that helps a person identify the lie that is believed in order to replace the lie with God's Truth with the help of the Holy Spirit. This Biblically-based course is an integration of teaching, modeling, and practicing to become proficient at using the tool for personal transformation and discipling others. In addition to the Saturday course, voluntary HEART Chart practice sessions will be scheduled in collaboration with participants for three weeks following the course. The cost for the course is $26 which includes a workbook and lunch.

Youth Group at Waynesboro City Revival Tonight
Youth group (middle and high school) will be meeting up at Constitution Park in Waynesboro this Wednesday for the revival event. Francis Pereira will be preaching and it will be a great evening! This Easter season, you're invited to take a Journey to the Cross, meditating on the pivotal moments leading up to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Thirteen stations will retrace the events in Jesus' last hours, and you will be a participant! It is a time to be quiet, reflect, and listen to the Spirit of God. This event is appropriate for all ages, and families are encouraged to experience it together, moving at their own pace through the stations.

Please join us Easter Sunday morning (April 4th) for an outdoor sunrise service starting at 6:30am. Bring your coat, a lawn chair and a breakfast treat to share and enjoy a time celebrating the Resurrection. An indoor breakfast potluck will follow the celebration. The event will be held at the home of Rob & Peggy Langellotti & Mary Ann Bryant: 277 Tadpole Ln, Greenville, VA 24440. When using GPS, please use the Cold Springs Rd entrance.

You're invited to join us for weekly prayer at Greenmonte on Tuesdays and/or Sundays. Details can be found below.

Tuesday Prayer Gathering
10:30am - Individual prayer and worship time
11 to noon - Group intercessory prayer time.
We meet in the Sanctuary. Come in by the side door by the ramp. Join us for all or part of the prayer time.

Sunday Morning Prayer Gathering
10:00 - 10:45 in the adult Sunday School room in the basement. Come in by the side door or the basement.

Both prayer times are open to anyone desiring to pray for our church family and worship services, our community, our nation and the world.

Waynesboro City Revival
Beginning this Friday night, there will be Tent Revival meetings in Waynesboro from 6-9pm at Constitution Park. A team from Greenmonte led by Roger & Louisa Priore will be leading worship this Friday, March 26th, and our very own Francis Pereira will bring the message on Wednesday, March 31. Journey to the Cross: April 1 & 2

This Easter season, you're invited to take a Journey to the Cross, meditating on the pivotal moments leading up to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Thirteen stations will retrace the events in Jesus' last hours, and you will be a participant! It is a time to be quiet, reflect, and listen to the Spirit of God. This event is appropriate for all ages, and families are encouraged to experience it together, moving at their own pace through the stations.

Are you curious about living a more sustainable lifestyle? Do you desire to be more prepared in case of local or national emergency? In this 3-hour seminar, Randy Peltola will share some of the things he has learned about sustainable living and emergency preparedness. He will touch on food (raising, storing & cooking), water, energy, and communication.

Date: Saturday March 27, 2021
Location: Peltola Home, 53 Spring Branch Ln, Waynesboro, VA 22980
 Session 1 is now full, only Session 2 is available.
Session 2: 2pm - 6 pm. Soup and bread supper at 5pm.  
We will make sourdough bread as part of the seminar.

The Second Mile Gospel
Like a cup being poured out, Jesus emptied himself. He took off the robes and crown of heaven in order to be born in the likeness of man. He had the right to be served by all of creation, and yet he became a servant of all. He was willing to lay down everything and anything that he could rightfully hold onto, for the sake of others. If we truly grasp that Jesus did all that for us, when we were enemies of God and dead in our sin, in order to bring us into fellowship with him -- then are we ready to demonstrate the same kind of love to those around us? Are we ready to show that kind of love to our neighbors, to our enemies, and to our brothers and sisters in Christ?

Family Life Meeting
We'll be having a Family Life Meeting at the end of our worship service this Sunday. During this time the Stewardship Committee will be reviewing God's faithfulness through our giving in 2020, and presenting the 2021 proposed ministry budget for Greenmonte. We have a change of plans for viewing options: this meeting will in fact be livestreamed for those watching at home.

Baby Bottles Due Back on Valentine's Day
If you took home a baby bottle from church to fill with change, cash, or checks for ComfortCare Women's Health, our local pregnancy resource center, please bring your bottle back to church by Sunday, February 14th.

If you forgot to grab a bottle or if you were worshiping from home, you can still participate in the Baby Bottle fundraiser. ComfortCare can accept checks mailed to PO Box 924, Staunton, VA 24402, or you can donate online here (select "Augusta Baby Bottle 2021" in the drop-down option at top of page).

SWAP Team Trip
Last week, a team of Greenmonte men traveled to Kimball, West Virginia to serve with the organization SWAP (Sharing With Appalachian People). They used their construction skills to work on SWAP'S guest house, which will also house their summer staff. Our team worked hard to make this house into a hospitable place for ministry use. Great job, guys!
