The Story

Knowing God Through His Story

Welcome to 2020. It's a new year and a new start. As the number 2020 implies, we believe this is a year for clear vision. Our prayer is that God would give us a deeper revelation of Himself, and that He would open the eyes of our hearts so that we could see Him and know Him in a different way. We're going to have that opportunity as a community around God's Word over the course of the next year.

We are a people whose lives are formed by the Word of God. His Word clarifies for us what our purpose is and what is true. There are so many other messages out there, very subtle messages that shape our priorities, tempting us to think we need to have or feel whatever we're being sold. If we're not anchored in God's Word and what He says is true and good and best for us, we'll be tossed to and fro by everything in our culture.

This year will be an exciting time for us as we go through the Story of the Bible together, reading Scripture weekly as a church body. We pray that as we read, God will focus our vision and understanding, bring correction where we're walking off the right path, and show us what things He wants us to let go of so that we can take a hold of Him and his promises in our lives. Most of all, our prayer for 2020 is that we would more deeply see and know God for who He is.

What is The Story?
The Story is a Bible reading plan that we'll be following together as a church body. This plan is made up of selected readings from Scripture, beginning in Genesis and ending in Revelation, that take us through the whole narrative of the Bible. As we read week by week, we'll experience together the unfolding of God's redemptive Story for the world and for our own lives.

How Can You Participate?

There are several levels of involvement:

1) Read Along
You can pick up The Story book on our Resource Table in the lobby. This book compiles all of our selected Scripture readings together in one place. If you'd prefer to read in your own Bible, there are Reading Plan bookmarks available in the Greenmonte lobby on our Resource Table. You can also click here for a PDF of the reading plan.

2) Process What You're Reading
  • Read With Others.  We encourage you to have devotional reading times as a family or household, with your spouse, or with a friend.

  • Journal through the readings. Feel free to grab one of the journals we've provided on the Story Resource Table for yourself and/or your child. Each week you can write out what you've learned, any questions you have, and prayers to God as you process His Word. Journal questions for our Bible readings can be found with the Reading Plan.

  • Attend a Life Group. One of the best ways to grow through reading God's Word is by doing it in community. Life Groups meet weekly in homes around the area, and many of them will be going through The Story readings together this year. If you're not yet part of a Life Group, you can sign up for one by clicking here.

  • Attend Sunday Worship. We meet every Sunday at 10:15am for our worship celebration. This year our Sunday messages will address the Scripture reading that we've been going through as a church body that week. Kids who attend our Kids' Church during the service will be led through a curriculum that follows along with The Story as well. We invite you to join us on Sunday mornings as we open God's Word and join together in praise.

3) Share what God  is revealing to you through His Word.
The purpose of reading through God's Word is to be enabled to know God more deeply for who He really is. As you read, pray, and process His Word, let us know if you'd like to share privately or with the church body about how God is working in your heart and life, and how He is revealing more of Himself to you. We'd love to hear from you! If you'd like to share, feel free to reach out to us using the form below.
